Originally sold in the U.S., this 1973 Porsche 911SC Coupe was imported to Canada where it underwent a custom Carrera RS-style backdate restoration that was completed after two years in 2018. It received classic longnose bodywork with fiberglass bumpers and steel fender flares along with an upgraded 3.0-liter flat-six with 9.5:1 pistons and cylinders, MSD ignition, PMO carburetors, a 964-spec camshaft, and more. The car also features refurbished brakes and suspension, custom black leather and yellow plaid bucket seats, a three-spoke MOMO steering wheel, a WEVO shifter, rally stopwatches, 15” Fifteen52 wheels, and Cibie auxiliary lights. Having been driven approximately 1,400 km or just under 1k miles since completion, this one-of-a-kind 911SC backdate is now being offered for auction out of Vancouver, British Columbia.

This non-sunroof Coupe has been stripped to bare metal and modified with a backdated longnose hood, steel rear fender fares, fiberglass RS-style bumpers, and a Getty fiberglass ducktail spoiler. The exterior is finished in Black and decorated with yellow Carrera RS-style side script, bumper stripes, and decklid lettering. Other accessories include dual chrome mirrors, H4 headlamps, Cibie driving lights, dual exhaust outlets, body-colored rear bumperettes, and 15” Fifteen52 wheels dressed in Vredestein Sportrac 5 tires. The seller indicates the windshield, seals, and lenses have been replaced and clear paint protection film was applied to the exterior in December 2018. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The black interior has been redone featuring replacement vinyl and carpeting, a backdated 1973 dashboard, a new headliner, and leather sport bucket seats with custom yellow plaid inserts. Other accessories include lightweight RS-style door panels, a three-spoke MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, a WEVO shifter, a 917-style wooden shift knob, dashboard-mounted rally timers, replacement VDO gauges, and Coco floor mats.

Power comes from an air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine that has been rebuilt and modified with a 964-style camshaft, 9.5:1 pistons and cylinders, MSD ignition module, an advanced-curve distributor, 46mm PMO carburetors, SSI heat exchangers, a Patrick Motorsports RSR muffler. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed Typer 915 manual transmission. The brake pads, rotors, calipers, and lines have been replaced and the suspension has been sandblasted, power-coated, and overhauled along with the installation of upgraded 911 Turbo rear torsion bars. Other restoration work included replacing the engine seals, hoses, lines, hood struts, and fuel tank, cleaning the oil cooler, and overhauling the oil tank.

This sale will include a spare tire, a car cover, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Hello PCAR community, and welcome to the auction for this beautiful 1978 911 Carrera SC Coupe that has been backdated to pay tribute to a 1973 Carrera RS. The professional build was done locally and took almost 2 years to complete which was in 2018 just as the write-up states. You will find many photos in the gallery showing its start to finish during the process all while paying close attention to every detail. We have sold the car twice now and the owner of our dealership also owned it for a couple of years as he enjoyed it so much. We are thrilled to find it a new home no matter where that may be. Please feel free to use the contact seller with more detailed questions as we can easily communicate via email or over the phone, whichever you prefer. We will assist the buyer with the process to get this car to your home. We have experience in putting you in touch with the right brokers/transporters who make this a straightforward and seamless process.

US Buyers: Since the car is over 25 years old and an ex-US car, importation to the US is easy. We can assist with arranging export to anywhere in the world for prospective buyers. Buyers are responsible for the cost of shipping and any duty or taxes they’re required to pay when importing a car to their destination. We recommend that you set a budget of approximately 2.85% for duty and $500~ USD for incidentals, plus the cost of shipping to your destination. This will land the car at your residence with the necessary paperwork for you to title the car in your home state. US Buyers are exempt from Canadian taxes when crossing the border, and your own applicable state taxes will apply.

Canadian Buyers: Budget the cost of shipping plus applicable tax for your home province where the car will be registered. No Federal Luxury Tax applies to Canadian buyers.

@WeissachVan as 200k CAD is 145k USD I’d say my guess was pretty spot on! This is a very nice car and the photos are well done but I still maintain that this car won’t get its true value at auction without build receipts, a dyno sheet, and recent compression and leak down numbers. It’s not 2022 anymore and even cars with real pedigree (e.g. Gamroth, Pink, Dawe, Kelly Moss) aren’t a sure bet to be worth what they cost to build right now.

  • WeissachVan (seller) 2 days, 1 hourago

@spartansix Over $200K CDN invested back in 2016-2017 and with inflation on parts and labour would be much more by todays standards. The documentation in pictures alone is substantial showcasing the build and attention to detail. We have had the pleasure of finding this car a home twice now and are very confident we will find its third shortly. Thank you

  • spartansix (registered bidder) 2 days, 1 hourago

Certainly more than 145 invested but hot rods and backdates don't hold value unless they're associated with a name. This has RNM around 100 twice now and I think that's about right in this market for a modified 78 that isn't associated with any builder or shop, has no build receipts or dyno charts, etc.

Thank you to all that fought till the end, still have a ways to go but we are confident it will find a new home!

@ Andersenrandy thank you for your interest and questions.
Yes, the shop that performed the work is a local company in Vancouver called Flat Six Classics.

We have been servicing the car since the build/1400kms, and most notably as seen in the photos/documentation provided is in preparation for its next owner: annual service, brake fluid flush, and spark plugs replaced. You will not some other little adjustments we made in the documents as well to ensure it not only meets our high standards but next owner too.

Even old receipts and records can help depending on who you get to review them. Some agents are super lenient.

  • WeissachVan (seller) 5 days, 23 hoursago

Thank you for the cheeky bid @SWexoticbuyers

@TFerrer We do have a record of the car history report showing USA origin but that is unfortunately all we have. The car, as you can see in the photos, was selected as a donor car for this project due to its condition at the time and the intent of what it was to become. I will ask the builder if he has anything prior that may assist but this was several years ago so I am not positive they will have it.

  • TFerrer (registered bidder) 5 days, 23 hoursago

There's no duty on a car that was in the US already. The catch is you need to show some type of proof the car was registered/titled in the US. An old copy of a registration or title is the best proof.

Hello @zuch Thank you! That is correct regarding the lights. The tires width are 195 in the front and 225 in the rears. Let me know if you have any other questions or curiosities. It's a fantastic car!

  • zuch (registered bidder) 6 days, 8 hoursago

Really nice build. Are the driving lights attached through the bodywork via the holes that can be seen in picture 165? Also, what width are the wheels?

  • emblematiq (registered bidder) 6 days, 23 hoursago

Beautiful build! I watched it last time around and will be watching again. Unfortunately, out of my price range. GLWA!

@sportscarguy3 Good day! Thank you for your interest and questions.
    - Yes, the yellow decals are able to come off however you would have to take the clear paint protection film off first as this was added after the decals and are over top.
    - The spare wheel you see is the only wheel that comes with the car, unfortunately there was never a set with the car to begin with.
    - Correct, no carpeting in the front, all exposed.
    - A radio and speakers would need to be retrofitted as there are no present.
    - Regarding the costs. Approximately 2.85% duty on the selling price, about $500USD in broker fees, and transport as well as your states taxes (same as you would when purchasing/titling any car purchased).
Feel free to hit the contact seller button and ask us anything else.
Thank you for your interest. This is an exceptional build and car overall! More details to come as the auction progresses too!

Good morning just finding your clean Porsche RS style back date
A few questions from me here in northern California
Are the yellow stripes on the bumper as well as the decals over the paint/removable easily?
The spare tire in the front compartment has the Factory Fuchs, do you have the other four?
Also, in the front compartment, is there no carpeting?
Finally, regarding the car, is there any wiring for a radio or speakers?
Regarding shipping and miscellaneous soft costs, I have shipped cars from the East Coast to me and Santa Rosa previously so that is not an issue
I do want to be clear on any other additional costs outside of shipping. Are you suggesting that I estimate 2.85% of the selling price as well as US$500 in addition to the selling price and shipping for import fees?
