Originally designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro in 1975, the Lotus Esprit was the brand’s flagship mid-engine sports car which evolved across several generations, culminating in the Series 4 (S4) version produced from 1994 until 2004. This 1995 example is an Esprit S4 finished in Black over a grey leather interior and equipped with a turbocharged 2.2-liter inline-four engine paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle. It was purchased by the current owner from Lamborghini Newport Beach in 2021 with only 6,090 miles showing on the odometer and has been kept in a climate-controlled car collection ever since. Now with just under 6,500 miles showing on the odometer, this collectible Lotus Esprit S4 is being offered for auction out of California.

The Esprit’s original Giugiaro design was revised by Peter Stevens in 1988 and updated by Julian Thompson in 1994 for the final Series 4 (S4) version. Compared to its predecessor, the S4 had different bumpers, side skirts, valence panels, and a smaller rear spoiler mounted midway over the decklid. This example is finished in Black (B02) and rides on factory 17” OZ 5-spoke alloy wheels in silver. The tires show production date codes from 2017 and are recommended for replacement due to age. Other equipment includes pop-up headlamps, integrated fog lights, heated and power-adjustable mirrors, Brembo-branded brake calipers, a polished exhaust outlet, and a pop-up sunroof panel. The seller indicates the car sustained damage under original ownership in 1995 as shown on the CARFAX report, and signs of paintwork are present along with some other cosmetic imperfections around the exterior. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin features a pair of adjustable bucket seats trimmed in grey leather with dark grey piping. Matching upholstery extends to the dashboard, door panels, and center console with dark grey carpeting below. The original wood trim pieces have been covered with faux carbon fiber inlays. Accessories include a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel, power windows and door locks, air conditioning, analog VDO gauges, a digital clock, and a Sony stereo. The seller indicates that a piece of the carbon-look trim on the gauge cluster is broken. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional including the air conditioning.

Rated at 264 HP, the mid-mounted turbocharged 2.2-liter inline-four engine sends power to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle. The seller indicates the clutch master cylinder was recently rebuilt and the car is in good running order with no outstanding maintenance issues.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a battery charger, and a clean title (lien).

The seller would like you to know: “This 1995 Esprit S4 is in very good condition throughout.  Though the mileage is exceptionally low, it is not a perfect car.  Sadly, this Esprit retained damage when it was just 4 months old.  It is unclear what occurred, but the car has several indicators of paintwork across the car. Due to these being fiberglass bodies, my paint meter does not pick up readings.  The photos & videos provided will point out what & where any flaws are.  Due to the fact this Esprit lacks maintenance records, I would venture a guess the belts are due for replacement.  My selling client & I have shops we would highly recommend if you'd like to perform the belt job.  I have driven the car about 40 miles, cautiously, and it has not skipped a beat.  As you'd expect, the car handles phenomenally.  The turbo spools are strong & consistent.  With one lap through a Lotus specialist service department, this car will be amazing for its next owner for a long, long time.  Happy to assist with the arrangement of a pre-purchase inspection & transportation.  This is a truly a very nice example with an unfortunate mishap early in its life. There is a small loan payoff to be made.”

Because of *A* crack - not because of crack.

@Jrgonce Both the seller nor myself have observed any leaking since his 2022 acquisition. Without any paperwork telling us what happened, we really can’t say. Our best guess is the passenger front fender was involved because of crack in the fiberglass under the front bonnet. I will be posting photos of the imperfections today.
