A purebred factory race car developed solely for the Porsche Supercup series, the 993 Carrera Cup 3.8 was lighter than its 964-based predecessor and featured a lower and stiffer suspension, larger brakes, three-piece Speedline wheels, a reinforced 6-speed gearbox, and a specialized 3.8-liter engine with a new resonance intake system. This 1994 example is one of 35 Carrera Cup cars produced for the model year and only 216 made in total until 1998. The car was reportedly used as one of two safety/pace cars during the 1994 Porsche Supercup series before it was sold to a private owner in 1995. It saw use in PCA racing events before being purchased by the seller in 2012. Accompanied by racing logbooks and a Porshe Production Specifications Certificate, this 993 Supercup race car is now being offered for auction out of Connecticut with approximately 27k kilometers (17k miles) showing on the odometer.

Featuring the rigid seam-welded bodyshell of the Carrera RS, the 993 Carrera Cup 3.8 wears a fixed rear wing and front spoiler from the Clubsport Package, an aluminum bonnet, and thin lightweight windows. This example is finished in Guards Red with a Supercup racing livery. It rides on Pirelli P Zero racing slicks mounted on center-locking 18” Speedline Supercup three-piece wheels measuring 8.5” wide in front and 10” wide in the rear. The seller notes the bumpers were repaired and painted at Automobile Associates of Canton, Connecticut, and the vinyl racing decals have been replaced.

The racing cockpit of the Carrera Cup 3.8 features a welded Matter roll cage, lightweight RS door panels, and a single fixed-back Recaro bucket seat. Factory weight-saving measures include the removal of sound-deadening material, carpeting, headliner, air conditioning, the heater, power accessories, sound system, and airbags. It comes outfitted with a three-spoke MOMO steering wheel, a Schroth safety harness, an aluminum driver’s floorboard, red RS-style fabric door pulls, air jacks, and a fire suppression system.

Based on the motor from the 964 Carrera RS 3.8, the 993 Carrera Cup’s 3.8-liter M64/70 flat-six engine featured a new resonance intake system, Bosch Motronic engine management, and upgraded valvetrain components from its 911 Carrera RSR sister car. The M64/70 delivers up to 310 HP to the rear wheels through a short-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox with reinforced steel synchromesh rings. The car also features an adjustable coilover suspension, adjustable sway bars, and large cross-drilled disc brakes with a track-tuned 5-channel ABS. It has reportedly been maintained by Daniel Jacobs LLC in Southbury, Connecticut for over 20 years including a documented engine rebuild in 2005. The most recent service includes draining and replacing old gasoline, installing new spark plugs, and refurbishing the fuel injectors. The seller adds that the Supercup exhaust system has no catalytic converters.

This sale will include a collection of documentation, service records, technical info, racing logbooks, a window safety net, an air jack hose, a Porsche Production Specifications Certificate, and a bill of sale.

The seller would like you to know: “This is 1 of 35 examples produced in 1994 having a completion date of 2/2/1994. It is 1 of 2 in 1994 that were used as a pace/safety vehicle for the Supercup series which ran in conjunction with F1. This car was also used for marketing the series. Please see the 3 books, along with copies of Excellence, featuring this car that are included in the sale. I have always stored this car in a climate-controlled garage at my home.”

I helped the previous owner, who is a close friend and last raced it, sell this car. I also know the current owner, and I have no reservations at all about this wonderful race car. Good luck with the auction!

@ralt12 Yes, the owner who raced the car in PCA, I have his storage container that has some miscellaneous new parts such as: 2 new oil filters, new orange brake pads, v-belts, 2 tie rods, and a rear cv axle shaft assembly. These items will go with the car.
Thanks for your interest, feel free to ask any questions

    Any spares ?

  • Major (seller) 1 day, 7 hoursago

    Morning
    Do not know the hours
Do know that engine and gearbox show no signs of any issues. As already stated, recent maintenance done by Dan Jacobs showed nothing that this car currently needs or showed signs of needing in the future.
    Thanks for your interest

@uscarrera The last entry into the PCA Logbook shows “8/28-29-30/09 at N J M S.
Entry before was 5/29-31/09 at Watkins Glen
I believe this information to be accurate. I have never raced this car, have only attended CVR PCA DE’s at Lime Rock and Monticello 2 or 3 times. It is a blast to drive at race speeds, will definitely put a smile on your face. Has not been on a track in approximately 9-10 years.
Hope you find this information helpful, any other questions, please ask.
    Thank you for your interest.

Welcome to the auction of my 993 SuperCup. These race cars are rare, and this one is amongst the most rare of the rarest!. A 993, last of the air cooled engines, one of two 1994’s that was used as a pace and marketing vehicle consequently never wrecked leaving it today as , most likely, the best original sample in existence .
Please ask any questions that you may have and I will answer as promptly as I can.
Good luck to all the bidders and remember the opportunity to own a car like this doesn’t come often.
