Available as an option on the 911 Carrera from 1984 until 1989, the rare Turbo-Look (M491) package included the wider bodywork, suspension, brakes, and wheels of the 930 Turbo model. An even rarer version of the package was available as option code M470, which included all parts of the M491 package apart from the 930 front and rear spoilers, which provided a more elegant and understated appearance. This M470-equipped 1986 example is a German-market Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe finished in Garnet Red Metallic over a Black leather interior with Porsche script fabric seat centers. Discovered by the current owner in a private climate-controlled collection out of Neuss, Germany, in 2003, it was purchased the following year and driven on a father-son tour throughout Germany with stops at the Porsche Stuttgart factory and Nürburgring racetrack. The car resided with its owner in Paris before being imported to the U.S. in 2007 and sold to its next owner in 2010. Reacquired by the current owner in 2018, this rare M470 Carrera Coupe is now being offered for auction out of New York.

This 911 Carrera Coupe is finished in Garnet Red Metallic (L822). The body includes wide 930-derived fenders as part of the M470 package along with Turbo-spec 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels. The car was also configured without a rear model designation as a factory option. Other equipment includes European-market bumpers and lights, black stone guard decals, integrated fog lights, and an electric sunroof. Upon import to the U.S. in 2007, some DOT requirements had to be made including the installation of 5 MPH bumper shocks, brighter headlights, and the removal of amber turn signals. The seller adds that the bumper was originally built for U.S.-spec shocks, so no modifications were required. The front trunk lid was refinished in 2009 following minor cosmetic damage from a tool dropped in the owner’s garage. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, Black leather upholstery is complemented by Porsche script fabric seat centers and custom red floor mats. Accessories include power windows, air conditioning, cruise control, carpet floor mats, a locking glovebox, analog VDO gauges, and a new Continental radio installed in 2023.

Boasting a higher compression ratio than its U.S.-spec counterpart, the Euro-spec 3.2-liter flat-six engine in this 911 delivers up to 231 HP to the rear wheels through a 5-speed Type 915 manual gearbox. The M470 package includes the 911 Turbo’s fixed four-piston brakes and cross-drilled discs, as well as its stiffer suspension with cast aluminum rear trailing arms and thicker stabilizer bars. The seller states that annual service was always performed by either a Porsche dealership or an independent Porsche-trained technician. The car’s documents include service receipts dating back to Germany in 2000, and from the current owner in France since 2005. Some maintenance highlights are listed below:

  • May 9, 2008: Replaced transmission mounts and other service items
  • June 17, 2008: Replaced clutch
  • November 3, 2008: Replaced ball joints
  • March 6, 2008: Replaced upper steering column bearing
  • February 2, 2019: Valve adjustment, sunroof cable replaced
  • March 28, 2020: Fuel lines replaced, and engine oil pressure sender replaced
  • October 19, 2020: 4 new Pirelli tires
  • January 19, 2021: 4-wheel alignment
  • June 2, 2023: New battery, full fluids, and replace many electrical lights, switches, and fuses

This sale will include a clean title. The seller adds that the original headlight and turn signals are located in storage and will be shipped to the next owner by October 15th, 2024.

Concerning the headlights. They are Bosch HB1 Headlights with HB1/9004 bulbs installed

Which larger oil cooler? Over and above the 3.2's standard engine mounted & RF fender mounted radiator style cooler?

At least on my handheld (and, let's be honest here, this isn't the best / most detailed photo gallery ever), I see... The DOT mandated aiming nipples of the H5 / 9004 US headlights. I also see the ridiculous amount of lens fluting of same (versus cleaner E Code H4 lens) and the H5 trim rings with rubber plugs at 9 o'clock & 12 o'clock for the H5 aiming provision. Again, at least on my phone screen. Then again, I did recently lose my reading glasses. 😎

Definitely a unique M491. European delivered with hp increase and larger oil cooler. Love the Porsche fabric seat inserts.

Looks to me that the coupe has H4 headlights installed and picture 97 are sealed beams.

Also, the M491 option was over $10K in ‘86 and includes turbo brakes, wide rear fenders, etc. The M470 option is no front or rear spoiler.

Don’t know for sure, but I believe M491’s did not have Carrera on the rear deck lid. Can anyone validate no Carrera on the rear deck lid?

Interesting. At least on my phone, headlights in Pic 97 look like DOT sealed beams, not Euro H4s. 🤔

I will post the (statement of conformity) from Wallace Environmental test labs of Houston Texas shortly. This shows documenting the mileage from kilometers to miles

Beautiful car. I assume with the service records mentioned there would be a record of the kilometers on the car when the US spec MPH speedometer was installed. It would help assess the total mileage on the car.

  • Rennsport (seller) 2 days, 11 hoursago

Also to be clear the car does not have A/C

Unfortunately, the original radio is gone. When the current owner purchased the car, it had an aftermarket radio
The amber turn signals are in storage still and will be given to the new owner

  • weilly 2 days, 12 hoursago

Is the original radio and European amber turn signals available? Could include pictures of the service receipts?

  • weilly 2 days, 12 hoursago

Certainly, a unique European delivered M491/M470. Would be a huge benefit to dry ice clean the undercarriage. Ditto on no a/c.

Without a doubt this rare spec presents the best rear end styling of any air cooled variant. GLWTS, not that you'll need it. Are motivated buyers going to wait for the next one to come along?

  • Fjamoroso (registered bidder) 2 days, 15 hoursago

    SUPER UNICORN!

"Brighter" H5 DOT headlights? That's funny!! Glad to hear that it comes with the (VASTLY superior) original H4 headlights.
Unless it has the Classic Retrofit electric AC system (no inner frunk pics?) or the even rarer "invisible AC option" (😎), this car is not equipped with AC. Which I, personally, see as a bonus.

Another Euro goodie to note is the transmission cooler we didn't get here in the states.

I'm a bit surprised it was spec'd with a sunroof. If it didn't, I'd have to risk pissing off the wife even more (by adding a fourth M491 / M470 to our three car garage).

MAN! I would LOVE to inspect this car / get my hands on it but I'm 2,500 miles away. I'd really love to go thru this car and dial it in.

Bummer about that dropped tool, but given everything else this car seems to have going for it, it could be no big deal.

    GLWA!

Hi, Nice car, but please provide pictures of the drivers and passengers side front carpet. I'm sure it's nice, but without pictures how woukd anyone trully know.

Seriously, the toppers are okay, but what's underneath is all that matters to a buyer. Just trying to help. GLWTA.
