Introduced in 1978, the Porsche 911SC succeeded both the 911 and Carrera models and features a 3.0-liter flat-six engine. Finished in Mocha Brown over a brown leather interior, this 1980 Targa example benefits from a restoration effort in 2001 that included the installation of 930 Turbo-look fender flares and cost over $23k. Acquired by the current owner from Park Place Motors in 1993, this Targa underwent engine and transmission rebuilds by Aker's Porsche in Seattle throughout 2005. It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Washington with approximately 163k miles showing on the odometer.

Finished in Mocha Brown with a removable black roof panel, this 911SC features an overhead Targa bar with a heated glass rear window. The car underwent a restoration in 2001 costing over $23k and including 930 Turbo-look fender flares, paintwork, and the addition of 18” Kinesis 3-piece forged wheels. The seller notes that the front half of the car was repainted in 2010 due to a gravel truck spill and paint protection film has since been applied on most front-facing surfaces. Some imperfections in the paint and window trim are noted. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

Inside, the cabin is upholstered in brown leather and features matching carpets including a mat for the rear seats when they are folded down. The seller has fitted a wood-rimmed steering wheel, an aftermarket stereo, and an alarm system. The seller confirms that all gauges, interior lights, radio, tape player, and CD player are functional, although the alarm system is faulty and the air conditioning is inoperable. No warning lights are indicated.

Powered is derived from an air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine sending up to 180 HP and 175 lb.-ft of torque stock to the rear wheels through a 5-speed 915 manual gearbox. The seller reports an engine and transmission rebuild was performed in 2005 at 133k miles. The rebuild included 964 cams and Euro-spec pistons, while the transmission underwent 1st and 2nd gear synchro replacements. The engine and transmission work were completed at Aker’s of Seattle, Washington. A compression test was done on November 9, 2023, at Bristow’s Auto showing the following results for cylinders 1-6: 150 psi, 145 psi, 148 psi, 145 psi, 153 psi, and 150 psi, respectively. All cylinders leak down tested at less than 1%.

This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, an air pump, a car cover, some documentation, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: In 1993 my need for a sports car became defined by this beautiful Mocha Brown 911SC Targa which I found to be unique among all the cars I test drove. I thoroughly enjoyed it as my daily driver. Then about 10 years later, decided to make it even more unique with the improvements you see today. It has been a beautiful car to own, drive, and just look at. After 31 years, parting with it is not easy, but it is time.”

@Jelbehai Thanks for your question. The fenders are steel and they were tig butt welded. The receipt, with a detailed description of the work and money the owner spent to do the conversion, is in the gallery.
The quality of the work is excellent and the look as if it came from the factory.

  • Jelbehai 1 week, 4 daysago

Can you comment on the turbo look fenders? Steel, fiberglass? Any signs of cracks/other? Thanks

  • rdorrell (registered bidder) 1 week, 4 daysago

@Fredly1 Thanks for the reply. We need our AC here in the Midwest ;-).

  • Fredly1 (seller) 1 week, 4 daysago

@rdorrell Thanks for noticing the belt is off. The owner hadn't use the air conditioning for years as he usually had the targa top off. He didn't care for it anyhow as it "Robbed HP". Beside here in the NW you really don't need to most of the time.
It would need a conversion kit to make it operational. Bristow's quote the owner $2800 to make it work again back in Oct. 23.
I will make sure PCMarket mentions it in the write up so there is no question in the future potential bidders.

  • rdorrell (registered bidder) 1 week, 4 daysago

I don't see a belt on the AC compressor... is it functional?

Welcome to the auction of this wonderful 911SC targa that has been has been driven and cared for over 30 years by the seller.
I am representing the owner and will do everything I can to help you feel comfortable bidding with confidence on this car. I have reviewed all the work orders and receipts for work done. I understand the story of this cars life so far. The owner made high quality modifications to meet his desire to make the car his own. He truly loved this car and celebrated by driving it regularly.
The motor is very strong, transmission smooth and has a powerful tuner/tape/CD deck for cruising. The car is as stunning in person as in the photos. Mocha Brown (Mocha Black as they call the color in Germany) looks different in every lighting condition which makes it even more special.

All it needs is a new owner to enjoy it this summer and for many years in the future.

Glad to help answer any questions and will help arrange any visits for inspections.

    Happy Bidding
