Produced from 1962 until 1980, the MG MGB is established as one of the most iconic British roadsters. This 1979 example was built by the Austin-Morris division of British Leyland and sold new from British Cars Only of Van Nuys, California. Purchased by the seller from its original owner, this MGB is now being offered for auction out of California accompanied by original paperwork and blue California license plates.

This MGB is finished in orange with a black convertible top and tonneau cover, black rubber bumpers, chrome body moldings, dual mirrors, a rear luggage rack, a fender-mounted antenna, a brushed aluminum windscreen frame, triple windshield wipers, and reproduction 14” alloy wheels by Moss Motors. The seller indicates the older whitewall tires were mounted within the last 150 miles and the original rims are included with the sale.

The cabin is trimmed in black vinyl upholstery with perforated seat covers and matching carpets. Accessories include a black four-spoke steering wheel, lap belts, a center console armrest, manual window cranks, MG-branded floor mats, a heater, a quartz clock, a locking glovebox, and a vintage Pioneer cassette stereo. The seller notes that updated headrests and window visors were installed under their ownership along with upgraded Polk speakers. The interior is described to be in excellent original condition and the seller adds that all gauges and accessories are functional, although the clock does not keep proper time.

Power comes from a 1.9-liter B-Series inline 4-cylinder engine with a single Stromberg carburetor. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed manual transmission and stopping power comes from disc brakes in front and drums in the rear. The seller notes the original radiator and heater have been retained and a list of service history was provided by the original owner.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a car cover, some documentation, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Hey everybody, this car was purchased brand new in December 1979. I picked this up from the Woodward of the original owner. He kept extensive paperwork, and the original blue and gold California license plates are attached. The license plate frame on the rear plate indicates British Cars only Van Nuys California. I've done a little historical research, and it was in fact a small British dealership that existed in the 60s through the 70s and into the early 80s. This car is so perfect the clutch the transition, the suspension the shocks everything on this car is perfect. It's a super fun car to drive. It has the original cassette radio. I have updated the door speakers to Polk, and it works. The cassette player is, as you would imagine good!”

  • Okdpartsnewstarts (seller) 6 monthsago

No, it’s not an incision or a crack again somebody may have got a little overzealous in the buff. It’s original paint as indicated by the photos.

Hi. Can you describe the flaw shown in photo #57 (left front fender next to headlight trim ring)? Is that a crack, rust, etc.?

  • Okdpartsnewstarts (seller) 6 monthsago

Hey, power 93 merry Christmas. The engine has not been done. The transmission has not been done. I picked this car last spring from the widower of the original owner. He maintained this thing extremely well. Unfortunately I’m out of town and with what little time is left? I’m not sure. I can get any undercarriage photos for you. When I pick this car last spring I dry iced it. I have a special Cool Technology Dry Icing Equipment, original body paint undercoating everything I’ll scroll through and see if I can post something up with the time remaining. I hope that’s helpful. Merry Christmas.

  • Power93 (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

  • Okdpartsnewstarts (seller) 6 monthsago

@sfmonster23 No, the top is not original. I believe it was replaced but all of the bonnets and convertible top covers are original. No leaks.

  • sfmonster23 (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

@seller Thank you. Any leaks or other issues with the soft top?

  • Okdpartsnewstarts (seller) 6 monthsago

Regarding cold start video. It appears that I need to download the P car market video application. There is a time differential between confirmation of account. As soon as that is organized, I’ll post the video. Thank you for your interest. Regards, James.
