Among the final iteration of Porsche’s mid-rear engine air-cooled sports car, this 1975 Porsche 914 2.0 has been upgraded with a 2.4-liter displacement. Benefitting from a meticulous frame-off restoration in 2014 that included a fresh white finish over tan leatherette and suede upholstery, the car also features a rear decklid spoiler, 5-lug Porsche 911 Fuchs wheels, and upgraded brakes. This 914 is now being offered for auction at no reserve by its seller out of California.

Refinished in white as part of a frame-off restoration in 2014, this example rides on upgraded 5-lug Porsche 911 Fuchs wheels dressed in Falken tires from 2011 and 2015. Equipment includes a white-painted removable hard top, pop-up headlights, black rubber bumpers, integrated front fog lights, dual mirrors, and a period-correct rear decklid spoiler with embedded Porsche lettering. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is appointed with tan leatherette and suede upholstery, complemented by a black carpet dashboard cover and grey carpeted floors. Equipment includes front bucket seats, a center armrest, roll-up windows, a speaker system, and an upgraded head unit. All gauges and accessories are reported to be in proper working order, although the parking brake is inoperable.

Power is provided by an originally 2.0-liter flat-four engine, bored out to a larger displacement of 2.4 liters. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed dog-leg manual transmission. Enlarged brakes have also been fitted, eliminating the need for a parking brake, and the battery has been moved to the trunk area. The seller notes that the gearbox can be a bit notchy at times and may pop out of first gear if not fully engaged, making it somewhat stubborn to shift out of first.

This sale will include a clean title

You can drive this thing all day long without doing a damn thing. You got the 15 inch rims on it in a ghost you know how much those things buy the extra money I’d buy this car myself. I already got my 73, but whoever gets it, congratulations in advance.

  • vintagebrokers (seller) 1 day, 8 hoursago

While we work on uploading the new driving video i like to mention those Fuchs wheels are OEM wheels off a 1969 911S. Very rare and hard to find and worth 5K alone if you can find them

    Good Luck with Bidding tomorrow!

  • vintagebrokers (seller) 1 day, 10 hoursago

@DC911guy Posted a new video this morning and im not seeing it please watch again. The gears shift nicely. Not sure that most would rebuild it so soon it shifts and drives great and would probably work better more worn in since the synchro was replaced

In your driving video you only start out in second gear
Looks like it needs the tranny rebuilt
    Not uncommon

  • b.flippo (registered bidder) 1 day, 15 hoursago

It has a parking brake. It's first gear and a bungy cord to hold the shifter in gear. ;-) Had the same one on my '75, 20 years ago.

    Old Battery place

Added 2 pics showing the old battery compartment and there is just one hole there

  • vintagebrokers (seller) 1 day, 21 hoursago

    Storing the targa top

This is not an issue it fits in the trunk and it closes as it should. It clears the battery as that sits in the middle

  • vintagebrokers (seller) 1 day, 21 hoursago

    Popping out of gear

This was an issue before but i actually did have my mechanic put in a new synchro. The gear box is perfectly aligned. What i meant to say now is first gear can act a little stubborn at times. See new driving video of me engaging in those gears. Its an old car id say the gearbox is a 7/10

  • vintagebrokers (seller) 1 day, 21 hoursago

    Bigger brakes

were installed for better stopping power given the 2.4L upgrade. I was told there was no room to add parking brake since the hub was also changed to fit 5 lug im assuming this may have something to do with it. You can park on a hill or most streets with wheels turned to the curb and with manual stick in gear opposite direction of the hill. This has not been an issue for me so i did not look into it any further

  • WTT 1 day, 21 hoursago

    @Seller

What was the answer to NO PARKING BRAKE question?

  • RichJ1615 1 day, 23 hoursago

    @Chipper Briefly?

  • tdskip (registered bidder) 2 days, 2 hoursago

Popping out of first gear, assuming the shifter is aligned properly, is an internal to the transmission issue. Most commonly it is a worn hub, synchro, or slider or combination of these. Replacement can be done with the gearbox in the car IF you have the correct parts available, and often that means a donor gearbox. It will continue to get worse if not addressed and personally I'd not use first gear until fixed because you can cause other damage and render the current internal parts related to first beyond use.

Not an idea battery location since it eats up trunk storage and MAY make it impossible to store the top properly (meaning you can;t take the top off during a trip since there won't be anywhere to put it). Hopefully the battery is not tall enough to foul the top but I'd encourage people to check since if so it would really compromise you ability to use the car.

Pictures 59 and 60 are worth a close look since it appears the hell hole rust (that prompted removal of the battery tray and battery relocation) was not repaired but instead painted over.

Not a "bad" car but know what you are buying...

  • tdskip (registered bidder) 2 days, 18 hoursago

Correct engine type would be a Type4, not Type3. No such thing as a frame-off since it is a unibody car. Yeah, people notice this stuff and it does not inspire confidence unfortunately.

  • vintagebrokers (seller) 3 days, 22 hoursago

@vintagebrokers given the lighter weight of the motor combined with more power

  • vintagebrokers (seller) 3 days, 22 hoursago

@Kraftwerk Yes a genuine 2.0 motor that was bored to 2.4. My mechanic says its Type 3 which is for 914. Type 1 is VW

  • Kraftwerk (registered bidder) 4 days, 21 hoursago

Power-plant question: is that a genuine 914 2.0 that has been bored to 2.4L ? or was the 2.0 replaced with a 2.4 vw bus engine or something ? I am not an expert on such things ..

  • vintagebrokers (seller) 4 days, 21 hoursago

No Reserve auction. Non-responsive seller. Equals good deal opportunity. Personally, I hope the seller never replies, should keep the price nice and low at the finish.

  • BoxsterGT (registered bidder) 6 days, 21 hoursago

Will not bid without undercarriage photos.

  • Twicedaily (registered bidder) 1 weekago

Seller, I think it would be best to get the car up on a hoist and take numerous pictures of the under body, suspension and brake components. Tough to bid when so much is unknown. Thanks

  • The914 (registered bidder) 1 weekago

Some beautiful work here…do you have any horsepower/compression/leak-down information further to the over-bore? Are the Porsche letters from the engine cover still available? Is that a longer shifter lever than stock? With the shifting issues mentioned, may we assume there was no transmission work performed when the engine was out, and that the odometer is on it’s second time around?

  • alta4 (registered bidder) 1 weekago

@chipper Good question. So the parking brake function has been eliminated by the larger brake upgrade?

  • Chipper (registered bidder) 1 weekago

How do enlarged brakes eliminate the need for a parking brake? How would I park on a hill?
