Recognized as an American icon, the Checker Cab was manufactured by Checker Motors in Kalamazoo, Michigan, from 1959 to 1982 and became a cultural symbol of mid-20th-century urban life, frequently appearing in films, television shows, and advertisements. Distinguished as a cab version by its A11 chassis code, this 1973 example comes finished in two-tone dark red and white with a matching interior. It is equipped with a GM 350ci V8 engine paired with a Holley 750 carburetor and a 3-speed automatic transmission. Features include power steering, air conditioning, and power front disc brakes. This cab is currently being offered for auction by its seller out of Rhode Island.

Having been refinished in a base coat of white with dark red fenders, this cab features large front and rear bumpers, quad headlights, chrome trim, dual exhaust outlets, and rides on aftermarket 5-spoke wheels wrapped in Firestone tires. Gold and blue “Natick Cab” lettering has been applied to the sides and trunk of the car, along with a corresponding phone number. The seller notes a bit of peeling clear coat and detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The interior is upholstered in two-tone burgundy and white upholstery with “Natick Cab” embroidered headrest backs. Features include air conditioning, roll-up windows, rear grab handles, and lap belts. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are said to be in working order, with no warning lights present.

This cab is said to have been fitted with a GM 350ci V8 engine, sending power to its rear wheels by way of a 3-speed automatic transmission. Factory equipment includes power front disc brakes and power steering. The seller reports to have installed a Holley 750 carburetor, as well as having performed an oil and filter change, replaced the power steering lines, starter, and battery, along with recharging the air conditioning.

This sale will include a branded title (mileage discrepancy).

The seller would like you to know: “If you’re looking for a toy this is it. It’s just a blast to drive, it has no issues at all, just a peeling of the clearcoat on the white paint which gives a character that’s the only reason it’s still there.”

Given the horrible drivers who camp in the left lane, then dive for the off ramp, this would be the perfect cars to put a crate engine in and help them exit the highway. GLWTA
