Initially sold at Niello Porsche in Sacramento, California, this 1972 Porsche 911T was acquired by its previous owner in 1988. Having undergone a refinish from its original Metallic Blue to the current Alpine White shade, it is powered by a 2.4-liter flat-six engine customized with Weber carburetors and a 5-speed manual transaxle. As a 1972 example, it also features a unique external oil filler lid (Ölklappe) which was discontinued and has since become one of the most sought-after 911 attributes. Accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this example 911T is now being offered for auction by its seller on behalf of its owner of 35 years out of California.

Referred to as an “Ölklappe”, this 1972 example is distinguished by an external oil filler lid mounted behind the passenger door on the rear quarter panel. This 911T was stripped to bare metal and refinished in Alpine White in 1990, differentiating from its original Metallic Blue specification. The restoration also saw the fitment of new anodized aluminum trim, bumper moldings, and rubber. It rides on factory 15” Fuchs forged alloy wheels wrapped in Kumho Ecsta LX tires from 2012. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings.

The cabin has been reupholstered with black leatherette and features a replacement headliner, carpets, and seatbelts. Equipment includes a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel, climate controls, Blaupunkt radio, roll-up windows, and a set of Lloyds floor mats.

The 2.4-liter flat-six engine has been equipped with dual carburetors and sends power to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. The seller states the engine was rebuilt in 1988, which also saw a conversion to Weber carburetors along with the transmission upgrade at Auto Sport Technology in Sacramento, California. Later, in 1990, the car underwent an engine-out valve job by Dwight Mitchell. The engine casing is stamped #6124149, matching the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. A host of service records are said to accompany the sale.

This sale will include a clean title, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, additional documentation, and a toolkit.

The seller would like you to know: “Originally painted Metallic Blue at the factory, this vehicle has been recently serviced by Salerno Motorsports and has had three owners. It is rust-free and was originally purchased at Niello Porsche in Sacramento. It comes with the original owner's manual, tool kit, and window sticker. The first owner sold it to the second owner around 1975 with 47,000 miles on the odometer. In 1988, the second owner had the engine rebuilt and converted to Webers at Auto Sport Technology in Sacramento. The transmission was also exchanged for a rebuilt 5-speed. The current owner acquired the car in 1989 showing 13,103 miles. In 1990, the car underwent an engine-out valve job by Dwight Mitchell and was stripped down and repainted in alpine white. The bumper moldings and anodized glass frames were replaced, and the interior was refreshed with new headliner, carpet, seats, seatbelts, and Lloyd mats.”

@jdminteg I found some blue in areas where black undercoat had been chipped, engine bay / under car. So it was not a bare chassis respray. Likely done as glass out, doors / bumpers apart etc. So wouldn’t be big deal to go back to blue if wanted.

  • jdminteg (registered bidder) 1 week, 4 daysago

from the photo looks like the car had a strip down paint job, could you confirm are there any sign of the metallic blue that is visible?

  • Workshop5001 (seller) 1 week, 4 daysago

@Ruri there are multiple boxes of extra parts that go with the car which have been compiled by previous owner. The current owner hasn’t done an inventory, they are in storage, but the mystery boxes will come with the car. Very possible there are treasures included! There is also a set of cookie cutter wheels

  • Ruri (registered bidder) 1 week, 4 daysago

    Hi
Are any other parts included with this sale?

@550bryan yes it is notated in records that it turned over

  • 550bryan (registered bidder) 1 week, 5 daysago

Nice 72, I assume that the odometer has turned over once and the miles is 170K? With ample service records that should be discoverable.

  • Workshop5001 (seller) 1 week, 5 daysago

@jovanybg the old MFI parts are not included. Keep in mind a euro 72T would have been carbs. The Webers work nicely.

  • jovanybg 1 week, 5 daysago

Long shot out, but is the MFI system still with the car? It would be an expensive retrofit, but might be something the new owner wants to reverse!
