The top-range version of Porsche’s mid-engine 914 sports car, the 914-6 featured a flat-six engine borrowed from the 911 and saw a short-lived production with only 3,338 examples produced between 1970 and 1972. This 1970 example was acquired by the previous owner in 1976 and fitted with an upgraded 2.8-liter engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. It was also refinished in purple and modified with steel fender flares, fiberglass bumpers, Bilstein shocks, a Borla exhaust system, 16” Fuchs-style wheels, Recaro bucket seats, and more. Purchased by the current owner in 2022 and driven less than 100 miles since, this modified 914-6 is now being offered for auction out of California.

This 914-6 was fitted with fiberglass bumpers, a custom rear spoiler, steel fender flares, side skirts, and updated 993 aero mirrors under prior ownership. The exterior was refinished in purple with a matching removable roof panel in 1991 and includes black stone guard decals, pop-up headlamps, front fog lights, a front chin spoiler, polished quad exhaust tips, and a mesh engine cover. The car rides on 16” Fuchs-style wheels dressed in BFGoodrich g-Force Sport Comp-2 tires. Additional images are provided in the gallery.

The black vinyl interior features a pair of grey velour Recaro bucket seats with fishnet headrests and Simpson safety harnesses. Other accessories include a three-spoke MOMO steering wheel, a Porsche-crested gear knob, manual windows, an under-dash air conditioning system, and a Sansui cassette stereo paired with Pioneer speakers. Two small cracks are noted on the dashboard and the seller reports all gauges are working properly.

The 914-6 was fitted with a replacement 2.7-liter flat-six engine that was rebuilt and upgraded to a 2.8-liter displacement by Bob Hindson Racing in 1978. It features an MSD ignition, exhaust headers (no heater boxes), a Borla exhaust system, and an RSR-style oil cooler. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual transaxle that was reportedly rebuilt in 2003. The car also includes disc brakes with 911S-sourced front calipers, Bilstein shocks, rear suspension plates, and stiffened rear trailing arms. The seller reports an oil change was completed in 2021.

This 914-6 is accompanied by owner’s manuals, a spare tire, a toolkit, a clean title, and some spare parts including the original exhaust.

The seller would like you to know: “It’s a one-of-a-kind car.”

@Porschefan1962 Was this originally a 914-6 or was it a converted 914, the description was not clear to me in the auction. Do you have a COA?

Back side photo on one of the F/R Fuchs would be helpful too to see if they are real or not, and a photo of the suspension while the wheels were off?

Cool period build! Any chance you could provide images of the typical body problem areas: hellhole L/R, underneath in those areas, jack points as best you can, front pan from underneath? Underside in general would really be helpful. GLWA! I’ll be keeping my eyes on this one.

Would have been perfect for the Purple Reign London Concours 2024 (yes, the spelling is intentional).
Do the original seats and the front come with the spare parts?
Do you happen to know the total weight? Thank you in advance.
