Produced between 1964 and 1967, only 26 examples of the Morgan Plus 4 Plus were ever built. This example, Chassis A5794, was sold new in 1965 to a Los Angeles Professor who owned the car until his 1999 passing and is said to have been displayed at the 1964 London Motor Show. Following the purchase from the original owner’s estate by a Norwegian collector, the car was sold to a US-based collector who commissioned a refurbishment by The Morgan Clinic of North Salem, Oregon after which, Chassis A5794 was displayed as part of the Morgan Centenary celebration at the 2009 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Finished in British Racing Green and pale yellow, the Plus 4 Plus is powered by a 2,138cc Triumph inline-four that features a pair of Weber carburetors and is mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes front disc brakes, sliding-pillar independent front suspension, 15” wire wheels, tan ostrich-hide interior upholstery, and a Derrington wood-rimmed steering wheel. This Morgan was purchased by its current owner in 2013 and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

Peter Morgan began developing the Plus 4 Plus in late 1962 and commissioned Staffordshire-based EB Plastics to design and produce the fixed-roof fiberglass coachwork. Making its debut at the 1963 London Motor Show, only 26 of the 50 originally planned production cars were built, based on the Plus 4 roadster’s Z-section steel frame with structural plywood floorboards, and unique steel reinforcements linking the firewall to the front suspension. The car was refinished in British Racing Green and pale yellow from black during its refurbishment in the 2000s. Features include a “bubble” roofline, an arch-shaped grille, chrome bumpers with overriders, Lucas driving lights, a badge bar, and a driver-side mirror. It rides on 15” Chrome wire wheels equipped with two-eared knock-offs wrapped in Vredestein Sprint+ S80 tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

Inside, the cabin features a left-hand-drive configuration, and the fixed-back bucket seats, door panels, and package shelf are upholstered in tan ostrich hide, fitted during the refurbishment at The Morgan Clinic. Tan-bound green carpeting lines the floors and rear shelf while other accouterments include a Smiths instrumentation 140-mph speedometer, a gauge that monitors amperage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level, and a 3-spoke Derrington wood-rimmed steering wheel. Equipment includes green inertia-reel lap belts, roll-up windows, and a heater.

Powered by a 2,138cc inline-four shared with the Triumph TR4, power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a Moss 4-speed manual transmission. The refurbishment of this example by The Morgan Clinic is said to have included an engine overhaul that included blueprinting of the block and crankshaft, porting and polishing of the cylinder head, JE pistons, Carrillo connecting rods, an Elgin camshaft, a finned oil sump, four-into-two-into-one exhaust headers, and twin Weber 4 DCOE carburetors. Other equipment includes Girling front disc brakes, rear drums, and a sliding pillar front suspension featuring coil springs and Koni shock absorbers that was refreshed during the refurbishment. Recent maintenance includes an oil change and fluid check.

This sale will include a trunk-mounted full-size spare tire and a clean title.
