For the 1964 model year, Porsche unveiled the final iteration of its original sports car, the 356C, featuring standard four-wheel disc brakes to enhance handling and reliability. Built with Karmann bodywork, this 1964 Porsche 356C 1600 Coupe presents a tasteful combination of black paint over red leatherette upholstery. Cared for in Texas (2007-2020), Arizona (2020-2022), and now Oregon, this classic Porsche is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Oregon.

Finished in black, this 356C rides on 15” steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and a set of Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Equipment includes a decklid with twin engine grilles, body-color bumpers with chrome overriders and integrated rear exhaust outlets, a polished driver’s side mirror, gold model lettering, pop-out rear quarter windows, and chrome brightwork. The seller believes the car was previously refinished and notes some rust bubbles on the driver’s side door, along with denting behind the driver’s side door. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin presents red leatherette upholstery contrasted by an exterior-color-painted dashboard. The 356C offered newly introduced elongated seat bases, lowered backrests, and armrests along the door panels for improved comfort. Additionally, minor switchgear changes were made for the model year that saw a handbrake warning light, and magnetic glovebox closure. Other features include a three-spoke steering wheel, bucket seats with lap belts, hand crank windows, and a suite of VDO instrumentation.

As much as 75 HP is drawn from an air-cooled 1,582cc flat-four engine with dual carburetors. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed manual transaxle and the chassis includes four-wheel independent suspension and disc brakes at each corner. The seller adds that a 12V battery has been fitted and an engine compression test shows readings of 92,94,92,90. The car leaks a small amount of oil.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This desirable black-over-red Porsche 356C boasts a fantastic interior and a great-running air-cooled 1600 engine with 75 hp. It was a Texas car (2007-2020) and then in Arizona (2020-2022), it features a later model 356 with disc brakes, converted to 12 volts. The car shows 17,500 miles (true mileage unknown) and has engine compression numbers of 92, 94, 92, and 90. Equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission, it rides on Vredestein tires (165HR 15 86H).”

@wcode Just added pictures of the most recent service work. The current owner has no other receipts/paperwork. He purchased this car as a fun daily driver for himself and documentation was not a major concern at the time of his purchase.

Do you have any documented servicing or repairs to validate any work or provenance? Replacement engine, but from what and when? Original trans? or? Thank you

  • Tarltonvintageautos (seller) 5 days, 23 hoursago

@DaveWadf The pan was removed and they chose to make a mental repair that didn’t reincorporate the pan.
This was done long ago and has remained solid since

    @Tarltonvintageautos Got it, thank you.

  • DaveWadf (registered bidder) 6 daysago

Looks like the front battery pan was replaced, and maybe not with the correct piece. @seller can you confirm?

I wish there were better underside photos to thoroughly see the typical rust areas, and underside of the doors.

  • MSD911 (registered bidder) 1 weekago

The copy says 75hp and seller’s note seems to indicate 90hp. Which motor is it? Thanks

  • Tarltonvintageautos (seller) 1 weekago

@jagtampa53 yes resprayed at some point. No color change. Yes standard 4 disc. Doesn’t appear to be matching numbers but current motor within 30 days.

  • jagtampa53 (registered bidder) 1 weekago

Has this had respray or color change, is the dash original color were the 4 discs standard original engine and matching numbers

  • Jtg356 (registered bidder) 1 weekago
