  • Lot #: V-0043125-DT

This 1976 Porsche 911S underwent a backdated long-hood body conversion under prior ownership along with several RS-inspired upgrades and modifications. It was purchased by the seller on PCARMARKET in May 2023 and treated to an 8-month mechanical restoration including a rebuilt engine and gearbox, fuel injection conversion, a new clutch, overhauled electronics, and more. The recipient of over $45k in recent service, this custom backdated 911S Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

Under prior ownership, this 911S was refinished in grey and modified with a classic long-hood front end, steel fender flares, RS-style bumpers, and an RS-style ducktail spoiler. Other details include Carrera RS-style graphics, dual chrome bullet-style mirrors, yellow-tinted headlamps, a removable black roof panel, a brushed silver Targa bar, and aftermarket Fuchs-style wheels. The seller indicates the Nitto NT05 front tires were replaced within the last 1k miles, and the rear tires remain in good condition. Some minor paint blemishes and scratches are present including one at the bottom of a front fender and another on the driver’s side door. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin was reupholstered under prior ownership including black leather seats, matching carpets, and RS-style door panels. Under current ownership, the radio has been removed and replaced with blackout plate, all knobs have been swapped with aluminum Rennline parts, Coco floor mats have been added, and a new MOMO steering wheel has been installed. A box is installed on the floor to allow for phone charging along with two accessory switches. One switch is currently set to operate as a heater blower override, and the other remains disconnected. The 12-volt lighter and clock are inoperable, however, all other accessories are said to be working properly.

An air-cooled 2.7-liter flat-six engine sends power to the rear wheels through a 5-speed 915 manual transaxle. The brakes were replaced under prior ownership and a major mechanical service was completed in 2023 as highlighted by the seller below:

  • A full bottom-end rebuild of the 2.7L engine, complete with a leak-down test and replacement of leaking pistons
  • Cylinder head studs replaced from original
  • Replacement of fuel/oil lines and hoses
  • Replacement of both camshafts and rocker arms
  • New fuel injection system
  • New timing chains, chain ramps, and updated pressure-fed tensioners
  • Complete cleaning and refurbishment of crankcase
  • Overhaul of the exhaust system including replacement of exhaust studs and conversion to catalytic converter replacing thermal reactors
  • New clutch, cable, and other parts of the clutch and pedal assembly
  • Nearly all gaskets, mounts, brackets, fittings, and other miscellaneous parts replaced
  • New electrical throughout including a new battery
  • Replaced 5-blade fan with 11-blade fan

The seller indicates a faint fuel smell appears to be coming from the fuel tank itself, which has not been replaced. No leaks have been identified and the smell only occurs when the tank is filled completely according to the seller.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a spare tire, a Rennline Targa latch tool, and a clean title (lien). The seller adds that this car is compliant with the California smog test.

The seller would like you to know: “Upon purchasing this vehicle around a year ago, a serious effort was put in to create a car that was as mechanically sound as possible and could be used as a daily driver without worry.  It has been an absolute joy to own and drive, but as needs and priorities shift (including a downsizing of available indoor parking), I believe it’s time to move on! I just hope that whoever ends up with this one falls as in love as much as I have.”

Thanks all for bidding! I believe @TurboSF is right - these are difficult to value and to translate that value in an auction like this. I appreciate the interest and will continue to enjoy the car for now:)

$105K asking price…so tough as a buy to estimate the value of one off restorations like this. I feel like that was reflected in the bid amounts.

That was a bit jacked, I tried to put in another bid when there was still over a minute left and I was locked out while it was "processing".

@Chipper I think this looks more exacerbated in some photos vs others, as it's not something that I particularly notice day to day. There is no particular reason (i.e. damage of any kind) - just the alignment of the modified body panels.

@TurboSF results are announced at the end, assume your bid is going to be a winning bid. All bids are contractual and the seller can accept the high bid even if reserve is not met, this is all explained in our terms.

@sportscarguy3 Hi @sportscarguy3 - the car has all the wiring for a radio, and I have the radio that came from the car upon purchase that I can include with the purchase. What the car will need is speakers themselves - the doors have the round holes ready for speakers, so the door panel will just need to be cut or replaced for any installation.

Since the work on the engine, there have been around 1k miles put on the car. After the work, I have driven it with care as I wanted to put ~500-1k miles on it first, so at this point, it should be good to go to drive normally.

Lastly, regarding seeing the car, that would be totally fine with me! I am heading out of town on Friday AM through Monday, so if you had availability today or tomorrow, that would be most ideal.

  • nandersonmn (seller) 1 week, 3 daysago

@Roma Hi @Roma, there is no rust anywhere on the car - I will post a walkaround video and try and get some views of under the car later today. For brakes, prior to my purchase, the car received new brake lines, calipers, and rotors. Since, the car has been driven around 1k miles, so they have nearly all their life left.

  • Roma (registered bidder) 1 week, 3 daysago

Would the Seller plz comment on any rust and life remaining on brakes/rotors? THX

    Good morning
Finding your handsome Porsche TARGA this morning from here and Santa Rosa, California, and had a few questions
I understand that purist say that the sound of a Porsche engine is music enough but I have always enjoyed music on a nice drive in my Porsche
Obviously, no radio and no speakers. How about wires are there any stereo or speaker wires currently in the car
Also, how many miles would you suggest have been put on the motor since the refurbishment work?
Does it need to be driven a special way to break in the work or is it good to drive normally as is
Finally, this morning as I mentioned, I am in Santa Rosa California, and would certainly like to drive to San Francisco and see the car in person sometime next week before the auction ends
    Is that possible?
    Steve

Hi All! Please feel free to reach out with any questions around the car. It has been such a fun experience to own and I can't wait to share it with someone else now. I'll be uploading photos around the work that was put into it and can add anything else of interest!
