One of the most celebrated models in Porsche’s racebred “RS” lineage, the 964 Carrera RS was produced exclusively for the European/RoW markets featuring a special seam-welded bodyshell, a minimal lightweight interior, shorter gear ratios, unassisted steering, lowered suspension, magnesium wheels, and a more powerful 3.6-liter flat-six engine. This 1992 example was sold new in Japan finished in Polar Silver Metallic over a black interior with tri-tone leather Recaro bucket seats. The car was relocated to Germany in 2013 and was imported to the U.S. by the seller in 2023. Benefitting from a major service within the last year including valve adjustments, new spark plugs, and rebuilt brake calipers, this 964 Carrera RS is now being offered for auction out of Georgia with 41,684 kilometers (25,901 miles) showing on the odometer.

Based on the 964 Carrera 2 Coupe, the Carrera RS variant features a special seam-welded bodyshell with an aluminum hood and thinner glass windows. There is no sunroof, and blank lenses are used in place of the front fog lights to save weight. This example came factory-finished in Polar Silver Metallic (92E) and rides on silver magnesium 17” Cup wheels dressed in new Michelin tires. The seller indicates the car was previously refinished to a high standard. Additional images are provided in the gallery.

The Carrera RS features a weight-saving interior without rear seats, airbags, air conditioning, a stereo, or sound-deadening material. It came standard with fixed-back Recaro bucket seats and basic door panels with cloth pull straps and roll-up windows. The black interior of this Carrera RS includes tri-tone grey leather seat centers with contrasting red seatbelts and door pulls. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.

Specific to the Carrera RS model, the air-cooled 3.6-liter M64/03 engine features hand-matched pistons and cylinders, solid rubber mounts, a lightweight singles mass flywheel, and revised ECU programming. Up to 260 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a close-ratio 5-speed G50 manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. The RS includes a lower and stiffer suspension than the standard Carrera 2, unassisted rack and pinion steering, and front brakes borrowed from the 911 Turbo. Records indicate the clutch was replaced in 2018 and a major service in 2023 includes valve adjustments, new drive belts, spark plugs, brake pads, rebuilt brake calipers, new fluids, and filters.

This sale will include owner’s manuals and a clean title.

This car looks a lot better than many cars that have sold for a lot more. I don't think 270- is crazy given the miles, originality, and asking prices of similar cars in the US. Good luck to the seller. If I didn't already have one, I'd have been a better bid than 220, but maybe not 270.

@Specracer8 you know, it is -- I didn't notice when I was shooting the car but now I can't unsee it. It's just a little loose and can be straightened / tightened. I don't know when the car was painted, but I presume it was done in Japan prior to 2013 when it came back to Germany.

It looks like the right side marker is tilted. Or is this an optical illusion of some sort? I ask due to the fact that the car was repainted.

@trkshoe I can't add them in a comment -- the entire car has been repainted, and readings are in the 7 to 12 mil range (with most between 8-10 mils). Anyone interested in seeing photos of the readings from my paint meter may use the contact seller button above -- please include your e-mail address in your note to me and I'll reply asap!

@Jarod964 the body number is stamped on the rear engine lid but not on the hood (however the hood is aluminum).

  • Jarod964 (registered bidder) 1 weekago

Do you know if the chassis stamps are matching #'s on front hood and rear decklid? Thx

As we head into the weekend, I wanted to mention a few more details about this 964 Carrera RS. The present enthusiast owner undertook an engine-out reseal earlier this year, so it's quite dry underneath. The Michelins were also installed earlier this year and have late 2023 date codes. This one is fully serviced, sorted and ready to enjoy, and would be a welcome addition to any collection -- the condition is beyond reproach. The 1,000 kilometers added under present ownership (with a few dozen added by me personally, with a big smile on my face) give me the confidence to drive this one anywhere.

@Specracer8 the paint meter readings are consistently in the 7 mil to 12 mil range (most are 8-10), indicating a repaint. No evidence of accident damage and the paint quality is outstanding.

Happy to entertain any last-minute questions -- please use the "contact seller" button above!

Beautiful RS. Good luck on the auction.

  • Jax32 (registered bidder) 1 week, 3 daysago

You can see the paint meter readings on the BaT listing from last summer.

  • Specracer8 (registered bidder) 1 week, 4 daysago

Very nice example of a 964 RS! Will you be posting paint meter readings? Curious to know if it ever sustained damage to the body.
    Thanks!

Y'all, this one is pretty special -- if you've ever had the opportunity to drive or own one of these, take it!

Nearly 300 lbs lighter than a 964 RS America, and nearly 500 lbs lighter than a standard US-market 964 Carrera 2, the Carrera RS feels markedly more sporting to drive than a standard 964. The driving experience is reminiscent of an early 911, but with a much more capable chassis (it incorporates all of the classic 911 good things -- light, tossable, willing -- but none of the bad ones -- superb handling and braking, more balanced and less tail-happy than a torsion-bar 911). And with only 1,992 units produced worldwide (and only a handful of those now stateside), it's rare.

We're happy to answer any questions or to accommodate a virtual or in-person showing. Feel free to comment here or use the contact seller above.
