Manufactured by BMW in Berlin from 1970 to 1973, the /5 series of motorcycles features boxer twin engines, telescopic forks, and an electric starter as standard equipment. This final-year example is a long-wheelbase R75/5 equipped with a 745cc engine, dual Bing carburetors, a 4-speed transmission, a two-up seat, and wire spoke alloy wheels. Having been under the seller’s ownership since 1986, this BMW R75/5 was recently serviced and is now being offered for auction out of Oklahoma.

Identifiable as a long-wheelbase version by the 50mm extension welded forward of the swingarm flange, this R75/5 is finished in metallic blue paint with white pinstripes and a black vinyl two-up seat. The side covers are finished in chrome along with the mirrors, handlebars, rear grab bar, and exhaust pipes. Additionally, this example features a chrome fuel tank that was offered between 1972 and 1973 only. Other equipment includes center and side stands, a left-side lift-assist handle, a '73-specific extended swingarm, and wire spoke alloy wheels measuring 19” in front and 18” in the rear. The bike rides on Continental tires and the seller indicates the fuel cap was replaced in 2024 along with the MotoMeter combination gauge. The original odometer is said to have failed at 48,421 miles and the new gauge now shows 2 miles.

This motorcycle is powered by a 745cc boxer twin with dual Bing carburetors, an electric starter, and a dual exhaust system with a crossover pipe. A factory-rated output of 50 HP and 44 lb.-ft of torque is sent to the rear wheel through a 4-speed transmission with an enclosed driveshaft on the right leg of the swingarm. Features include telescopic forks, dual shocks, electric and kick starters, and drum brakes front and rear. Service in 2024 is said to have included replacing the exhaust, spark plugs, ignition wires, fuel hoses, fuel filter, fuel petcocks, and air filter, rebuilding the carburetors, and sealing the inside of the fuel tank.
